NORTHVILLE, Mich. – Macomb Softball hit the road Thursday (April 21) to make-up a postponed game against the Ocelots of Schoolcraft College. The Monarchs jumped on top early, leading 5-1 through two and a half innings played, but the Ocelots closed the game strong and scored six unanswered runs to win Thursday's league tilt by a 7-5 final.
With the setback, the Monarchs shift to 12-9 overall and more importantly 9-7 in the ultra-competitive MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Ocelots improved to an even 13-13 overall and equaled the Monarchs at 9-7 in league play.
RBI doubles off the bats of Danielle Erickson (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) and Jenna Casey (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) highlighted a four-run second inning and helped the Monarchs jump out to an early 4-0 lead. The Monarchs tacked on another run in the third inning, but the offense was stymied from there as the Blue & White couldn't string hits together to bring more runners home in the 7-5 road setback.
Erickson and Nikki Syracuse (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) led the Monarchs with two hits each. Both Erickson and Syracuse recorded a double in the game as did Casey who went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jackie Seyfarth (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) came on to pitch the final two and a third innings and only allowed one hit and one run while facing eight batters.
