Monarchs Earn Tuesday Split, Visit NJCAA D1 No. 20 Indian River State Wednesday

Elizabeth Townsend and Allison Vogt highlighted the game one win

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Macomb Softball shifted its record to 2-4 on the season after splitting Tuesday's action in sunny Melbourne, Fla. The Monarchs took the opener in thrilling fashion, scoring the game's final seven runs to earn a 9-4 victory over Culver-Stockton JV. In their second game of a back-to-back at the Space Coast Complex Tuesday, the Monarchs fell to NJCAA Division I power Kaskaskia College by a 13-0 decision.

The Monarchs will be away from the Space Coast Complex tomorrow when they visit NJCAA Division I No. 20 Indian River State Community College. Indian River enters tomorrow's game with an impressive 26-7 record on the season. At this time, there is no live stream for tomorrow's doubleheader at Indian River.

GAME ONE: Macomb 9, Culver-Stockton 4
The Monarchs took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Wildcats responded with two runs in the home half and two more in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Monarchs settled in from there and were able to get within two runs in the fourth inning when Alexis Murray (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) drove an RBI single to center that plated Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II).

Down 4-2 with two outs in the top of the sixth, sophomore first baseman Elizabeth Townsend (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and the game-tying run in scoring position. After working the at-bat to a 3-1 count, Townsend cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to put the Monarchs back in front, 5-4. The clutch hit was Townsend's team-leading third double of the young season and lifted her RBI total to five through five games.

The Monarchs would tack on four more runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to the eventual final of 9-4.

Freshman pitcher Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) came on in relief and earned her second win of the season with another impressive performance. Vogt tossed three scoreless innings while striking out four and scattering four hits to help the Monarchs earn their second win of the campaign.

Rylee Thomas (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) followed Townsend in the RBI department with two of her own in four plate appearances.

GAME TWO: Kaskaskia 13, Macomb 0
The Monarchs fell in the nightcap to NJCAA Division I power Kaskaskia College by a 13-0 final tally. Rylee Thomas had the lone extra-base hit of the contest.
