Softball Wins Game Two, Earns Saturday Split With Henry Ford

The Monarchs erupted for 12 runs on 18 hits in game two

WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Softball shook off a 3-1 loss in the opener Saturday (April 15) and won game two going away, 12-6, to split the conference doubleheader with the visiting Hawks of Henry Ford College. The split pushes the Monarchs record to 13-14 overall and 7-8 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.

GAME ONE: Henry Ford 3, Macomb 1
The Monarchs recorded eight hits and had runners on base throughout the game but couldn't break through in a narrow 3-1 loss. Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) drove in the lone run on a sixth inning single to center field. Reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Pitcher of the Week Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) got the start and held the Hawks to two earned runs over seven innings while striking out six batters.

Clark, Brynn Beyer (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and Elizabeth Townsend (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) led the Monarchs with two hits each in the opener.

GAME TWO: Macomb 12, Henry Ford 6
The Monarchs shot out to a 5-1 lead through two innings and plated five runs in the sixth to earn a 12-6 win. The 12 runs were a product of 18 hits, four coming off the bat of Elizabeth Townsend. The sophomore's bat remained red-hot with a 4-for-4 effort in game two with four runs scored. In all, Townsend recorded a team-best six hits throughout Saturday's doubleheader.

Haley Mitchell (Memphis, Mich./Memphis) continued her ascension as of late after going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Rylee Thomas (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) mirrored Mitchell's effort with a 3-for-4 line and two RBIs, while Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II), Danielle Erickson (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights), Samantha Scott (Romeo, Mich./Eisenhower) and Katelyn Thomas (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) all recorded two hits to round out the game two leaders.

Katelynn Fraser (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) got the start in the circle in game two and held the Hawks to three earned runs over five innings of work for her third win of the season. Allison Vogt came on for the final two innings and earned a six-out save – her first save at the collegiate level.
