Bats Cool Off as Monarchs Fall Twice on the Road

The Monarchs have eight games remaining in the regular season and are in a battle for the final playoff spot

WATERFORD TWP., Mich. – One day after erupting for 33 runs, including 21 in one contest, Macomb Softball combined to post six runs in an 11-5 opening game setback and a 14-1 decision in game two at Oakland Community College Saturday (April 22).

Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) and Rylee Thomas (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) led the Monarchs in game one with three hits each. Bilpo posted a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while R. Thomas recorded a team-best two RBIs. Samantha Scott (Romeo, Mich./Eisenhower) went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI and Danielle Erickson (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) posted a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored.

Alexis Murray (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) paced the Monarchs in game two with a 2-for-2 effort that included a double. Murray drove in the Monarchs' lone run of the latter contest on a fourth inning RBI double.

The Monarchs are off until they resume MCCAA East play at home Friday (April 28) against Schoolcraft. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. and precedes a Saturday twin bill at Mott (1 p.m. first pitch). Each game is critical as the Monarchs are in a tight battle with Henry Ford for the third and final playoff spot awarded to the MCCAA East.
