WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Softball improved to 8-6 overall and remained perfect in MCCAA Eastern Conference play at 4-0 with a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Raiders of Oakland Community College (OCC) on Tuesday (March 26) in Warren. The Monarchs remain home for a conference doubleheader with Mott on Friday at 3 p.m. before ending their week at Marysville City Park to play two against SC4 on Saturday at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE: Macomb 6, OCC 1
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) provided all the offense the Monarchs needed in the opener as the sophomore went 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs via three doubles. Prasnjak's fifth inning RBI double would stand as the game-winning hit before the Monarchs broke the game open an inning later behind an RBI double by
Brynn Beyer (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and a two-RBI single off the bat of
Kaycee Stang (Fraser, Mich./Fraser).
Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) was in cruise control in the opener and went to record her third win of the campaign after tossing a complete game and holding the Raiders to one run while striking out six and scattering five hits.
GAME TWO: Macomb 7, OCC 6
Comback, complete! With the Monarchs down 4-0 after a half inning of play,
Brynn Beyer continued her strong day and ignited the bats in game two with a three-run home run over the wall in right center to slice the Raider lead to 4-3 in the home half of the first. The opposite field home run was Beyer's first of the season and the 10
th of her Macomb career.
Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) knotted the game up in the third with an RBI double down the left field line, while
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) connected on an RBI double of her own later in the inning to help give the Monarchs a 6-4 lead.
The Raiders would counter an inning later and tie the game, 6-6, in the top of the fourth before
Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) hit an inside-the-park home run down the right field line in the bottom of the inning to put the Monarchs in front for good at 7-6.
Not to be lost in the game flow, Beyer made arguably the play of the day in the top of the sixth as she reacted quickly to an apparent suicide squeeze and shoveled it home for the first out of the inning. The great defensive effort allowed the Monarchs to remain in front and secure the 7-6 victory.
Katelynn Fraser (Washington Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) got the start and went 3 1/3 innings while only giving up one earned before giving way to
Grace Dzikowski (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) who went 3 2/3 and held the Raiders to one hit and struck out three for her fourth win of the season.
