MARYSVILLE, Mich. – Kaycee Stang got the scoring started with a fourth inning grand slam, while
Ally Prasnjak hit the go-ahead 3-run shot in the seventh and
Katelyn Thomas followed with a solo blast one batter later to highlight a thrilling 8-5 comeback win over St. Clair County Community College on Monday (April 22). The come-from-behind victory extended the Monarchs' winning streak over the Skippers to 13 games and moved the Blue & White to 19-11 overall and 15-5 in MCCAA East play.
While the trio of home run hitters highlighted the day, the pitching tandem of
Grace Dzikowski and
Allison Vogt teamed up for 10 strikeouts as Dzikowski fanned seven and Vogt retired three while picking up the win in relief. The win was Vogt's sixth of the season.
The pair held the Skippers to five hits across the seven-inning conference tilt.
Savanna Clark remained red-hot at the plate with a game-high three hits, including a bunt single in the seventh that put two runners on for Prasnjak's 3-run, go-ahead shot that was sent crashing into the Skippers' scoreboard in left center. Stang was 2-for-3 with a career-best four RBIs, all coming on her first collegiate home run, and
Brynn Beyer went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Sydney Urban started the rally in the top of the seventh with a lengthy at-bat that resulted in a single to right field.
The Monarchs return to action Friday (April 26) for a MCCAA East doubleheader on the road against Schoolcraft. The doubleheader will be played at Ward Church in Northville and is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
