WARREN, Mich. – What a Sophomore Day in Warren!
Allison Vogt was in control the entire day and
Ally Prasnjak played the role of hero late as Macomb Softball swept the Hawks of Henry Ford College by final scores of 4-1 and 7-5 on Monday (May 6). Vogt picked up two wins on the day to move to 12-5 on the season, while Prasnjak hit a walk-off, two-run home run to end game two in thrilling fashion.
The pair of wins lifted the Monarchs to 27-13 overall and pushed their MCCAA East record to 23-7 at the end of the conference slate. The 27 wins is the most by a
Jim Beard coached team at Macomb and the 23 victories in league play is the most conference wins in a single season in program history (note: the amount of league games has varied greatly throughout the years and 30 league games ties for the most scheduled/played).
GAME ONE: Macomb 4, Henry Ford 1
The Monarchs kicked off Sophomore Day with a 4-1 victory behind a shut down performance by sophomore right-handed pitcher,
Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay). Continuing her strong play as of late, Vogt held the Hawks to one run on four hits across seven impressive innings of work. The victory marked the eighth consecutive decision that resulted in a win for Vogt.
With Vogt dialed in, the Monarch bats did their job, bringing four runs across to score to help earn the win.
Brynn Beyer (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) paced the bats with three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) drove in a pair of runs on a RBI single and
Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Lexi Murray (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) brought in a run via a bases loaded walk, one of three free passes for the sophomore on the day.
GAME TWO: Macomb 7, Henry Ford 5
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) called game in the bottom of the seventh as the sophomore ended it with a two-run home run well over the center field fence to give the Monarchs a 7-5 victory. The walk-off blast was Prasnjak's 12
th home run of the season and lifted the sophomore shortstop into a tie for fourth place in single-season home runs in program history.
Before Prasnjak walked it off,
Zoe Hunt (Warren, Mich./Regina) led off the inning with a sharply-hit single through the left side of the infield that ultimately forced the Hawks to pitch to the Monarchs' top power hitter.
Allison Vogt came on in relief in game two and picked up where she left off in the opener. The sophomore limited the Hawks to three hits in just under three innings in the circle and didn't allow an earned run while striking out three batters. The impressive relief performance, coupled with Prasnjak's heroics to walk it off, lifted Vogt to 12-5 on the season and gave the sophomore nine wins over her past nine decisions recorded.
Prasnjak led the Monarchs with a 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs and three runs scored, while
Carleigh Bilpo followed with two hits in three plate appearances.
Chloe Cantin (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) nearly hit a home run of her own earlier in game two as the freshman outfielder doubled off the wall in center to drive home the game-tying run to cap off a three-run sixth inning.
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) hit an RBI single to make it 5-4 prior to Cantin's game-tying drive off the wall.
