WATERFORD TWP., Mich. – The Monarchs tallied 26 runs on 29 hits Sunday (March 23) to earn a split as part of a wild day at Oakland Community College. Game one went in favor of the host Owls by a 20-12 margin while the Monarchs took over in game two to win, 14-5.
The split gave the Monarchs their first league win of the season, shifting the team's record to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in the MCCAA East ahead of Tuesday's home doubleheader against Schoolcraft College.
GAME ONE: OCC 20, Macomb 12 (F/6)
In what was a wild opener, the Monarchs and Owls went hit-for-hit through five and half innings as the Monarchs tied the game, 12-12, with a four-run sixth frame. Much like they did all game, the Owls had an answer in the home half of the inning and posted an eight-run sixth to end the game with a 20-12 win.
Kailey Viviano put on a show in game one, hitting a grand slam for her first collegiate big blast and later hit a two-run home run to drive in a career-best six runs.
Madalyn Roberson hit her second home run of the season and
Savanna Smith connected on her first at the collegiate level to go along with a double to round out the leaders for the Monarchs in game one.
Alexa Garofalo,
Raegan Hemelberg,
Paige Muehlbrandt and Smith all recorded a double as part of the 12-run, 12-hit outburst.
GAME TWO: Macomb 14, OCC 5 (F/6)
The bats stayed hot in game two, this time leading to a 14-5 run rule victory behind an incredible seven home runs.
Madalyn Roberson,
Paige Muehlbrandt and
Sydney Urban belted two home runs each while
Kailey Viviano hit one to lift the team's total to 11 home runs on the day.
Roberson ended the day with a team-best four home runs on the season after hitting three overall against the Owls. Viviano also hit three on the day—her first three of the campaign—while Urban hit her first two home runs of the 2025 season. For Muehlbrandt, the pair of home runs in game two were her first at the collegiate level.
Muehlbrandt also doubled in the game, as did
Alexa Yaklin who tied for the team lead in hits with three with Muehlbrandt and Urban.

Raegan Hemelberg, Roberson and Viviano all recorded two hits in the nightcap.
Grace Dzikowski got the start in the circle and went on to earn her first win of the season after striking out a pair in six innings of work.
