WARREN – What a day in Warren!
Grace Dzikowski dazzled in game one and
Kailey Viviano led the way at the plate all day as Macomb Softball swept Henry Ford on Thursday (April 17) to move to 12-16 overall and 9-9 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play.
The Monarchs will look to carry their momentum into Saturday's home doubleheader against Mott Community College. First pitch against the conference-leading Bears is set for 1 p.m.
GAME ONE: Macomb 2, Henry Ford 0
Grace Dzikowski was brilliant in the opener as the sophomore right-handed pitcher tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out nine batters in a 2-0 victory. Keeping the Hawks off balance throughout, Dzikowski's lone hit surrendered was a blooper into shallow right field in the fifth inning.
The Monarchs scored via an error in the first inning and tallied their second and final run of the game on a
Kailey Viviano single to center field that scored
Raegan Hemelberg in the third inning

Hemelberg scored both runs in the opener and tied Viviano for the team lead in hits with two, including a third-inning double that made the second run possible.
GAME TWO: Macomb 6, Henry Ford 1
Alexa Garofalo started the scoring with a first-inning solo shot to center field, and
Kailey Viviano continued her strong play with a third-inning 2-run home run to help pace the Monarchs to a 6-1 win.
Garofalo's home run was her fifth of the campaign, while Viviano's marked her team-leading 10
th of the season. The freshman infielder later connected on a RBI double as part of a 2-for-4 nightcap with two RBIs.
Aubrey Rich tied Viviano for the team lead in hits with two, and
Madalyn Roberson scattered five hits and struck out one to notch her sixth win of the season.
