Softball Secures Postseason Spot, Will Defend Great Lakes District A Title Next Week

The Monarchs—the reigning Great Lakes District A Champions—are heading back to the same district to defend their title May 8-10 at Marysville City Park!

ALLEN PARK – Macomb Softball split on the road Saturday (May 3) and secured their latest postseason berth in the process after losing game one, 12-11, and winning game two in convincing fashion, 14-1, in five innings. The split sends the Monarchs to the NJCAA Great Lakes District A Tournament as the East No. 4 seed.

The fourth-seeded Monarchs will take on the No. 2 seed out the MCCAA West, Lake Michigan College, on Thursday (May 8) at Marysville City Park at 12 p.m. The opener will be a matchup between 2024's Great Lakes District Champions as Macomb won District A while the Red Hawks took home the District B crown.

GAME ONE: Henry Ford 12, Macomb 11
Despite racking up 11 runs on 18 hits, the Monarchs fell by a narrow 12-11 margin in Saturday's opener to the Hawks. Raegan Hemelberg and Madalyn Roberson each hit a home run and a double with equal 3-for-4 efforts as the pair combined for five RBIs. Kailey Viviano hit her 13th home run of the campaign to finish the day two behind the single-season home run record of 15.

Viviano, Riley McLaughlin, Paige Muehlbrandt, Aubrey Rich and Sydney Urban all had two hits in the opener to follow Hemelberg and Roberson who had had three hits each.

GAME TWO: Macomb 14, Henry Ford 1 (5 inn.)
Raegan Hemelberg, Paige Muehlbrandt and Madalyn Roberson all homered while Hemelberg continued her red-hot day with a pair of doubles in the emphatic game two win. Roberson drove in a game-high four runs while hitting her ninth home run of the campaign and Hemelberg drove home three on a pair of doubles and her fifth long ball of 2025.

Alexa Yaklin brought three runs in to score and Roberson shut down the Hawks to the tune of a five-inning two-hitter in the circle.
