COCOA, Fla. – Macomb Softball opened their spring trip at the Space Coast Games in Florida on Monday (March 9). The Monarchs earned a split on day one, losing to Lake Michigan College, 11-0, in the season opener before bouncing back with a 13-0 five-inning victory over Prairie State College.
GAME ONE: Lake Michigan 11, Macomb 0
The Red Hawks held the Monarchs to one hit in the opener and erupted for six runs in the seventh to take firm control of the game in the 11-0 decision.
Addison Wodowski recorded the Monarchs lone hit while Riley McLaughlin drew two walks. Ryleigh Davis had a walk and stolen base in the opener.
Madalyn Roberson got the start in the circle for the Monarchs and went on to strike out six in seven innings of work.
GAME TWO: Macomb 13, Prairie State 0 (5 inn.)
After scoring two runs in the first and four more in the second, the Monarch offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth before sealing the run-rule victory in the top of the fifth.
Jacqueline Asmar went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to pace a balanced offensive attack. Aubrey Rich was 2-for-4 with with a double and RBI, while Davis went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. and Alexa Garofalo went 1-for-1 with a walk and three runs scored. Kailey Viviano rounded out the offensive leaders with a pair of RBIs and runs scored in the 13-0 victory. The Monarchs registered 12 hits as a team in 25 at-bats.
In the circle, Ariana Wlodeck and Mackenzie Sawicki stole the show as they combined to no-hit the Pioneers. Wlodeck struck out three in her four innings of work before Sawicki came in for the final three outs of the run-rule contest. The no-hitter was the 16th in program history (second combined no-hitter).
Wlodeck helped secure the win with a RBI double as part of a 1-for-3 game that also included a walk and a run scored.
UP NEXT:
The Monarchs will face the Pioneers again on Tuesday (March 10) at 2:30 p.m. before taking on Minnesota North College-Itasca at 4:45 p.m. Both games will be contested on the Red Rawlings Field at the Space Coast Games in Cocoa, Fla.
