FINDLAY, Ohio – Macomb Softball saw its season come to an end Friday (May 8) in the Great Lakes District A Tournament, falling 4-3 to Glen Oaks Community College in nine innings.
With the loss, the Monarchs wrap up the year with a 19-24 record and the program's latest playoff push. Despite dropping the contest, the Monarchs were one of the final four teams standing in their bracket and narrowly missed out on playing in Friday's elimination bracket final.
The Monarchs held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Vikings made the most of an extended at-bat to score twice and send the game to extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth, the Monarchs jumped back on top when Addison Wodowski connected on a ball that cleared the wall in straightaway center. The solo shot, Wodowski's third of the season, gave the Monarchs a narrow 3-2 edge in ninth, but the Vikings capitalized in the home half of the frame to post a 4-3 walk-off victory.
Wodowski, Aubrey Rich and Kailey Viviano paced the Monarch attack with two hits each. Ariana Wlodeck went the distance for the Monarchs and was owner of a shutout until two outs in the seventh as the sophomore right-hander struck out three and didn't allow an earned run across nine innings of work.
