CAREER NIGHTS ALL AROUND IN MONARCHS 83-56 ROAD WIN

Monarchs get back on track with crucial road victory

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Everyone entered the scoring column and career nights were aplenty Tuesday (Nov. 23) when Macomb Women's Basketball cruised to an 83-56 road win at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (0-3). The 27-point victory – the Monarchs second win of the season – was made possible by team offense that saw the Blue & White record 23 assists on 34 made baskets.

After holding a narrow 13-8 edge through 10 minutes of play, the Monarchs (2-3) turned up the intensity to outscore KVCC 28-10 in the second quarter to take a 41-18 lead into the halftime break. Second half action saw the Monarchs continue to cruise as the Blue & White led 68-32 at the end of the third quarter on their way to the 83-56 road triumph.

Sophomore DeBraya Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Oakland CC) led the assist party with a career-best 14 dimes, marking one of the best assist games in program history. Overall, Edwards nearly had a triple-double after posting nine rebounds and seven points to go along with 14 assists and did so while sitting out the game's final 14 minutes thanks to the Monarchs large lead.

Freshman forward Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) led the Monarchs with 20 points (10-of-13 FG) and 12 rebounds – both new career bests – while Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) posted a stat line of 10 points, six rebounds, a team-high four steals. Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) and Gabriella DiPiazza (Warren, Mich./Cousino) poured in four 3-pointers each to tally 16 and 14 points, respectively. DiPiazza's 14-point night rounded out the top performances and set a new career-high for the freshman out of nearby Cousino High School.

Other point scorers for the Monarchs Tuesday included: Hailey Harger (5), Imani McGlown (4), Jamia Eaton (3), Randi Martin (2), and Jayla Price (2).

After traveling to the west side of the state and back Tuesday, the Monarchs will face a quick turnaround when Glen Oaks visits Warren for a 1:00 p.m. matinee game on Wednesday (Nov. 24). Macomb Athletics will live stream the game beginning at 12:50 p.m. on www.MacombMonarchs.com/Watch.
