SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Playing the program's first game as a ranked team in several years, Macomb Men's Basketball cruised to a 91-50 win over Eureka College JV Saturday (Dec. 18) on the campus of Lawrence Tech in Southfield. The win – the Monarchs 10th of the season and fourth in a row – was a product of tenacious defense and another balanced scoring effort.
After a week off, the Monarchs showed no signs of rust and raced out to a 44-29 halftime advantage. The lead would continue to grow throughout the second half as the Monarchs outscored Eureka 47-21 in the final stanza to pick up win No. 10 on the season.
All 10 Monarchs who entered the game scored as part of a 50% shooting effort from the floor as a team. Conversely, the Monarchs held Eureka to 27.1% shooting overall and a 21.6% clip from the field in the second half. In all, the Monarchs owned a 54-20 points in the paint advantage and earned a 23-4 edge in fast break points to cruise to the 41-point victory.
John Ukomadu (Southfield, Mich./Vincennes) shot 8-of-9 from the floor to post 17 points and added eight rebounds in 24 minutes to pace the balanced Monarchs Saturday afternoon. Tariq Humes (Farmington, Mich./Elevation Prep) followed Ukomadu with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Jaylen Daughtery (Detroit, Mich./Mott CC) continued his ascension throughout the season with a 15-point, 10-rebound effort in 26 minutes of play.
