BALANCED EFFORT LEADS MONARCHS TO WIN OVER BAY COLLEGE

WARREN, Mich. – All five starters reached double figures to pace a balanced Macomb Men's Basketball team to a 70-59 victory over a talented Bay College squad Friday (Dec. 3) in Warren. The Monarchs, now 8-1 on the season, topped a Norse team that entered Friday's contest receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Top-20 Rankings.

The Monarchs' decisive win over Bay was only the second loss of the season for the Norse (8-2). The lone other loss for the Norse came against No. 4 Milwaukee Area Technical College.

On Friday, the Monarchs worked their way to a 39-24 halftime edge and later led by as many as 21 points in the second half behind balanced scoring and a gritty defensive performance. The Monarchs shot 50% in the first half (44.6% for the game) and knocked down 13-of-14 free throws as part of an efficient night overall. Defensively, Jaylen Daughtery (Detroit, Mich./Mott) and John Ukomadu (Southfield, Mich./Vincennes) anchored a stingy defense with four blocks each.

Daughtery had his best night in a Macomb uniform as the second year freshman accompanied his four swats with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes of action. Ukomadu, recently named a JUCO 2022 Top-100 Player by JUCOrecruiting.com, continued his impressive sophomore campaign with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor.

Reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Jiovanni Miles (Novi, Mich./Wisconsin-Green Bay), posted 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and added a team-high six assists, four rebounds and two steals in a game where the Monarchs never trailed.

Elijah Belle (Detroit, Mich./Davenport) and Tariq Humes (Farmington, Mich./Elevation Prep) rounded out the top performances on the night with 13 points each on a combined 9-for-9 effort from the charity stripe.
