Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) dished out a career-best nine assists to go along with 12 points as No. 11 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised to an 81-61 home win over Glen Oaks Community College Tuesday (Nov. 22) in Warren. The win lifts the 11
th ranked Monarchs' record to 7-2 on the season. The visiting Vikings fell to 4-3 after seeing the Monarchs pull away in the second half in the 20-point decision.
After trailing in the early stages of the game, the Monarchs ended the first half on a 13-5 run to take a 32-29 lead into the locker room at the break. The momentum carried over into the second half as the Monarchs began the frame on an 11-0 run and never looked back as part of a dominant second half effort.
The Monarchs held Glen Oaks to 10-of-27 shooting (37%) in each half while connecting on 57.1% of their own attempts from the floor over the final 20 minutes of Tuesday's non-conference tilt. Points in the paint went in favor of the Monarchs, 36-16, as did bench scoring (30-15), points off turnovers (29-5), second chance points (16-13) and fast break points (15-4).
Adley's career-best 19 points came on an 8-of-11 shooting effort. The freshman added three rebounds and a pair of steals in 24 minutes of action. Holder wasted no time in his return to play as the freshman guard went on to post a career-high nine assists while connecting on two triples as part of a 12-point night.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) continued his strong play with 11 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a block, while
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and
Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) each added eight points in the win.
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) posted six points, three assists and a block and
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) corralled eight rebounds to go along with six points in 20 minutes of play.
The Monarchs return to action Dec. 2 at home against undefeated Cuyahoga Community College (OH). The Triceratops are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Top-20 Poll.
