SANBORN, NY – One day after falling in a top-10 battle against host and No. 4 Niagara County, ninth-ranked Macomb Men's Basketball bounced back in style with a 90-65 victory over Monroe Community College to wrap up their time at the T-Wolves Holiday Classic in Sanborn, NY. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 10-3 on the season. The Tribunes of Monroe CC fell to 6-8.
The Monarchs jumped ahead by 15 early and led by as many as 31 points in the impressive win.
After exchanging buckets early, the Monarchs went on a 24-7 run to take a 32-17 lead with 7:54 remaining in the opening half. The Tribunes made shots down the stretch in the opening half and closed the gap to to seven as the Monarchs took a 39-32 lead into the locker room.
After leading by seven at the break, the Monarchs caught fire and erupted to post a 51-point second half on 54% shooting from the floor overall and a 40% clip from beyond the arc.
In all, the Monarchs' defense forced 18 turnovers and turned the miscues into a 19-7 edge in points off turnovers. The Monarchs out-rebounded the Tribunes, 36-28, including a 16-10 advantage on the offensive glass. The advantage on the offensive boards led the Monarchs to a 23-9 edge in second chance points.
The Monarchs' balance was on display throughout as the bench outscored the Tribunes' bench, 42-14.
Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) led the Monarchs with a new career-high of 18 points and added five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. McEvans was followed by
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) who checked in with 15 points, four assists and three steals and
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) who added 13 points, 11 of which came as part of a red-hot first half effort.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) anchored the Monarchs' effort on the glass with seven rebounds.
The Monarchs return to their home court Dec. 17 for a 3 p.m. matchup with Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Weekly game notes will be posted Wednesday.
