AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball once again battled tough, but couldn't overcome a slow start in a 64-47 road loss at Oakland Community College Monday (Feb. 7). The loss sends the Monarchs to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in the MCCAA East. The host Raiders ended the night at 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the Eastern Conference.
Down 23-9 after one quarter of play, the Monarchs came out strong in the second quarter to outscore the Raiders, 18-16, to make it a 39-27 game at the halftime break. The 12-point halftime hole would prove to be too much to overcome as the Raiders used a 16-4 third quarter edge to eventually earn the 17-point victory.
Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) led the Monarchs with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-5 mark from the free throw line. Hudgins added six rebounds and a pair of assists in Monday's contest. Amari Davis-Dobbs (Eastpointe, Mich./Lincoln) went 3-of-8 from 3-point territory to post 10 points and round out the Monarchs in double figures scoring. DeBraya Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Roseville) recorded eight points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) tallied an equal eight points and added two boards for the Monarchs.
