NJCAA D1 #15 GEORGIA HIGHLANDS SWEEPS MACOMB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – With the 2022 spring trip winding down, head coach Cliff Howe and the Monarchs had one final stop against one of junior college's best when they began a three-game set at NJCAA Division I No. 15 Georgia Highlands College Sunday (March 13) in Cartersville, Ga. On Sunday, the Monarchs and host Chargers played the first two of the three-game series with the hosts taking game one, 16-5, and game two by a final of 9-2.

The Monarchs battled tough but were undone by big innings by the host Chargers in each game.

GAME ONE: #15 Georgia Highlands 16, Macomb 5
The Chargers scored seven in the first inning and plated five more in the fifth to secure the 16-5 victory over the Monarchs. Tom Burt (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) got the Monarchs on the board in the top of the second by connecting on his first collegiate home run. Burt's first career home run, a two-run shot over the left field wall, brought Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) in to score. Medrano doubled earlier in the inning to set the table for Burt's blast.

Despite being down 11-2 through two innings, the Monarchs settled in and held the Chargers to five runs the rest of the way. The Chargers entered Sunday with one of the NJCAA's most potent offenses (34 home runs through 22 games).
Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) and Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) drove in a run each in the fourth inning, while the Monarchs fifth and final run was scored via a passed ball an inning later.

Jadon Hill (Macomb, Mich./Armada) came on to work three innings of no-hit ball with one strikeout. With Sunday's impressive outing, Hill has only allowed one run over his first seven and two-thirds innings pitched this season.

GAME TWO: #15 Georgia Highlands 9, Macomb 2
A four-run second inning by the Chargers created separation in a game that saw the Monarchs tally eight hits in a 9-2 defeat. Despite falling in Sunday's latter game, the Monarchs recorded a hit in each of the first five innings and brought runners into scoring position multiple times against one of juco's top programs.
Harrison Ryan (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and Terry Dean (Davison, Mich./Davison) provided the scoring for the Monarchs with RBI singles in the fifth inning. The run-scoring singles marked the first RBI for Dean and Ryan this season. Jeremy Pudlik led six other Monarchs with a hit by going 2-for-4 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot.

Ryan Polega (Macomb, Mich./Henry Ford II) came on in relief and shut down the opposition for the second time in as many collegiate outings. The freshman hurler did not allow a run while scattering three hits in just over two innings Sunday, keeping his ERA at a perfect 0.00 through six and one-third innings pitched.
