WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball picked up its first MCCAA Eastern Conference series win of the season Sunday (April 24) when they topped SC4 twice, winning game one by a 10-2 margin before taking game two by a narrow 1-0 final score. With the Sunday sweep, the Monarchs took the series, 3-1, and pushed their conference record to 8-12 (10-24 overall). The visiting Skippers fell to 6-14 in league play and 12-19 overall after suffering a pair of setbacks in Warren Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: Macomb 10, SC4 2
Ryan VanSlambrouck (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) was in command and went the distance to earn his third win of the season. The second-year pitcher struck out three and relied on his defense in the 10-2 win. With the defense making big plays behind him, VanSlambrouck was able to stay out of trouble all game while only allowing two runs on eight hits in seven innings of work.
Offensively, the Monarchs were led by
Jack Lyndrup (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) who broke the game open with a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple in the fourth inning to give the Monarchs a 7-1 lead. Lyndrup finished Sunday's opener 2-for-3 with a team-best three RBIs.
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) and
Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) recorded an RBI each while matching Lyndrup by going 2-for-3 in the opener.
Adam Amodei (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Chippewa Valley) went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs while several other Monarchs entered the hit and RBI column in the eight-run victory.
GAME TWO: Macomb 1, SC4 0
The Monarchs made several amazing defensive plays in the series finale, none more important than the walk-off play at the plate when
Harrison Ryan (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) made a perfect throw home to
Josh Medrano to get prevent the tying run from scoring. The Ryan-to-Medrano connection ended the game at home plate, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 victory and a series win.
Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) played an incredible game at short stop and was a huge factor in the one-run victory.
Bryan Masterson (Roseville, Mich./Roseville) got the start in game two and posted a complete-game shutout after pitching seven innings of three-hit ball while striking out four batters. The complete-game shutout gave Masterson his first win of the season and the fourth of his career at Macomb.
The Monarchs were held to four hits in the pitcher's duel as
Adam Amodei,
Ty Mychek (Ray Twp., Mich./Romeo),
Harrison Ryan and
Logan Rybarczyk recorded a base hit each. Mychek had the Monarchs' lone extra-base hit of game two, a fourth-inning double to left center, while Ryan scored the only run of the contest on a Skippers error that was induced by ground ball off the bat of Medrano.
