Monarchs Split Sophomore Day Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WARREN, Mich. – The home season for Macomb Baseball came to a close Thursday (May 5) as the program celebrated its annual Sophomore Day while hosting a doubleheader against MCCAA Eastern Conference counterpart, Henry Ford College. The Monarchs kicked off Sophomore Day in style, winning game one by a 7-6 margin behind a five-run comeback. The Monarchs would drop game two by a 6-2 final.
The split shifted the Monarchs record to 13-31 overall and 9-17 in the MCCAA East. The visiting Hawks, battling for the final playoff spot in the conference, saw their record move to 20-16 overall and 13-13 in the MCCAA East. The same two teams will meet Saturday (May 7) at The Corner Ballpark in Detroit for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In between games, the Monarchs honored the following sophomores/second year players: Giancarlo Polanco (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower), Jack Demetral (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), Ryan VanSlambrouck (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), Bryan Masterson (Roseville, Mich./Roseville), Gary Glaser III (Chesterfield, Mich./Lutheran North), Harrison Ryan (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North), Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) and Cameron Ison (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley).

GAME ONE: Macomb 7, Henry Ford 6
Bryan Masterson battled through adversity and went the distance to pick up a Sophomore Day win for the Blue & White. Masterson pitched all seven innings in the one-run victory and held the Hawks to one run over the final four innings of play after facing an early 5-0 deficit. The win was Masterson's second of the season and the fifth win of his Monarch career.

After facing an early 5-0 deficit, the Monarchs' bats caught fire in the bottom of the second when Adam Amodei (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Chippewa Valley) got the Blue & White on the board with a two-RBI single back up the middle to cut the Hawks' lead to 5-2. Joey Tedesco (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./GP North/Hillsdale) got the Monarchs to within one later in the inning on a two-RBI single through the left side, while Ty Mychek (Ray Twp., Mich./Romeo) tied the game up after scoring on a wild pitch to make it 5-5 through two innings of play.

The Monarchs took the lead in the third when Amodei continued his strong day at the plate with a double to deep left center that brought Tom Burt (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) around to score, putting the Blue & White in front by a 6-5 tally.

The Hawks tied it up in the top of the fifth, but Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) answered in the home half of the inning with an RBI single that drove in Jack Lyndrup (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) for the 7-6 lead. Pudlik's RBI single would stand as the game-winning hit as Masterson and the Monarch defense did the rest to secure the one-run victory.

Amodei went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Lyndrup, Mychek and Tedesco all recorded two hits each as part of an 11-hit game for the Monarchs. Tedesco followed Amodei in the RBI department with two and Pudlik had the team's other RBI, doing so on his game-winning single in the fifth inning.

Lyndrup also tripled in the game one victory, his second of the season.

GAME TWO: Henry Ford 6, Macomb 2
Harrison Ryan went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Josh Medrano drove in the Monarchs other run in a 6-2 game two setback. Cameron Ison got the start in game two and went on to post a solid outing after scattering five hits across four innings of work. Ison allowed one run to score and struck out five in his final appearance on Macomb's home field.

Joey Tedesco led the Monarchs on the basepaths with two stolen bases and Jack Lyndrup recorded a hit to go 1-for-3 in the nightcap.
