Baseball Season Comes to a Close

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DETROIT, Mich. – The 2022 season concluded for Macomb Baseball Saturday (May 7) afternoon when the Monarchs traveled to The Corner Ballpark in Detroit for a doubleheader against the Hawks of Henry Ford College. The Monarchs battled tough but fell shy of picking up a win on the season's last day as the Hawks won the opener, 13-6, before taking the finale by a 7-4 score.

With Saturday's losses, the Monarchs wrap up the season at 13-33 overall and 9-19 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.

GAME ONE: Henry Ford 13, Macomb 6

The Monarchs were close throughout, thanks in large part to a four-run second inning, but the Hawks plated seven runs over the first two innings and later pulled away behind a four-run sixth inning in the 13-6 decision. Joey Tedesco (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./GP North/Hillsdale) paced the Monarchs at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double and the rare inside-the-park home run. The inside-the-parker was Tedesco's first home run at the collegiate level.

Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) posted a team-best two RBIs in Saturday's opener.

Jack Lyndrup (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) didn't have to swing the bat to etch his name in Macomb Baseball's record book in game one. After getting hit twice in his first two at-bats, Lyndrup earned the distinction of becoming the Monarchs' single-season hit-by-pitch (HBP) record holder with 14 on the season. Lyndrup broke a record that was held since 2012 by Stuart Eisler and Andrew Grabowski. Eisler and Grabowski both recorded 13 HBPs in the 2012 campaign to set the record.

GAME TWO: Henry Ford 7, Macomb 4

The Monarchs got on top early with two first inning runs as an RBI double by Joey Tedesco brought the first run in and Trace Hudson (Farmington, Mich./Lapeer) made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly to right field. Much like in game one, the Hawks answered quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Monarchs went back in front an inning later on a Jeremy Pudlik RBI single to center brought Logan Rybarczyk in to score from second base.

The Hawks would tie the game at 3-3 in the third and broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning for the 7-4 win. The Monarchs' fourth run came on a Connor Armstrong (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Chippewa Valley) RBI single to right field that scored Tom Burt (Clinton, Mich./Clinton).

Gary Glaser III (Chesterfield, Mich./Lutheran North) got the start and went four and a third and struck out four while only giving up two earned runs. Ryan Polega (Macomb, Mich./Henry Ford II) came on for the final inning and two thirds and closed out his freshman season in style by recording four of his five outs via strikeout.

Tedesco went 2-for-4 with a double to continue a strong day at the plate, while Armstrong, Burt and Pudlik had a hit each for the Monarchs.

THANK YOU!

Macomb Athletics thanks all the players and coaches for the memories this season. To those who donned the Macomb Blue & White one final time today, we extend a special thank you and wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors. You'll always have a home at Macomb!
