WARREN, Mich. – Not their night. Macomb Volleyball couldn't shake off a slow start and fell at home to the conference-leading Bears of Mott Community College by a 3-0 final Monday (Oct. 9) at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs shifted to 8-10 overall and an even 4-4 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with the loss, while the Bears improved to 7-0 in the league and 12-8 overall.
Set scores for the Monday night conference contest were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20 in favor of the Bears.
Mallory Cardinale (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) led the Monarchs offensively with seven kills and was followed by
Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) and
Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) with six kills each, while
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) was the lone Monarch with a double-double after posting 18 assists and 15 digs.
Nikole Nikolova (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) anchored the defense with 26 digs, while Cardinale and Elliott had 15 and
Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) checked in with 10 digs of her own.
Tresnak, Hudgins and Weiss all tied for the team lead in aces with two.
The Monarchs will look to get back on track Wednesday (Oct. 11) when they travel to Livonia to take on the Schoolcraft College Ocelots. Wednesday's match is of high importance in the conference standings with the Monarchs in the fourth and final playoff spot at 4-4 and the Ocelots one match back at 3-5.
