BY THE NUMBERS: 8
Following a 1-0 week with a 99-46 road victory at Region 12 counterpart, Owens Community College, Macomb Men's Basketball moved up one spot to No.
8 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll. The eighth ranked Monarchs, now 5-1 on the season, hit the road for two games at Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, NY, this weekend.
BY THE NUMBERS: 98
Through five games this season, the eighth ranked Monarchs have been efficient offensively on their way to averaging 98.3 points per game. The
98 points per game (PPG) ranks seventh nationally while the Monarchs' 54.6% shooting clip from the floor ranks fifth in the country.
Juwan Maxey leads six averaging double figures at 16.3 PPG.
INSIDE THE OWENS WIN
Due to the holiday break, the Monarchs were in action once last week, a road tilt at Region 12 opponent, Owens Community College. The Monarchs made the most of their trip to the state down south and put together a wire-to-wire win, cruising to a 54-14 halftime lead and an eventual 99-46 victory.
Josh Hines led the Monarchs with 18 points.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Monarchs take their No. 8 ranking to New York this weekend to take part in the Jim Riggs - Post Journal Classic at Jamestown Community College. The Monarchs will battle the host Jayhawks on Saturday at 7 p.m. before closing out their trip with a Sunday matinee matchup against Niagara County Community College at 1 p.m. Both games will be
streamed live by Jamestown.
BALANCED ON THE BOARDS
The Monarchs balance has been on display in the early stages of the season and the proof is in the stats. On top of the balanced scoring, the Monarchs have showcased balance on the boards with four players averaging north of six rebounds per game (RPG):
Parker Day (7.8),
Tate MacKenzie (7.7),
Tymias Williams (7.2) and
Juwan Maxey (6.8)
LIMITING THE OPPOSITION
One of the nation's best defensive teams over the past two seasons, the Monarchs are once again atop NJCAA Division II in a key metric. Through six games, the Monarchs have held the opposition to 32.7% shooting, a number that leads the country by a full percentage point.
A LOOK AT: JAMESTOWN
The Jamestown Jayhawks enter the week with a 2-6 record but have played a difficult slate that includes two contests against ranked opponents. Aubrey Nicholson leads the team at 19.1 PPG, while Jhamien Smith and Jayln Moorehead follow closely at 15.0 and 14.6 PPG, respectively, for a team that shoots 31 free throws per game.
A LOOK AT: NIAGARA COUNTY
The Thunderwolves, a perennial power and the preseason No. 3 team in the country, slid out of the poll this week after a 5-4 start to their campaign. Much like the Jayhawks, the Thunderwolves record is misleading due to a schedule that is jam-packed full of ranked competition. Julian Cunningham leads a deep and talented Thunderwolves squad at 14.9 PPG and Jamyier Patton follows at 12.6 PPG.
ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT (OR DAY)
The Monarchs have had five different leading scorers through six games this season with
Parker Day being the only player to lead the team twice. The balance and depth has resulted in six players averaging 12+ PPG:
Juwan Maxey (16.3),
Parker Day (14.8),
Tymias Williams (14.3),
Josh Hines (13.0),
Justin James (12.3) and
Kyle Millender (12.3).
