Sophomore forward
Tamia Tounsel continued her strong start to the 2023-24 campaign with another
10 rebound effort in the game at Lansing. Through five games, Tounsel—a three-time MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week already this season—is the lone Monarch averaging double digit rebounds per game (10.8 RPG).
BY THE NUMBERS: 50
Through the first five games of the season, the Monarchs have amassed
50 steals and are owners of a perfect 2-0 record when they have more steals than their opponent.

UP (MCCAA) NORTH
The first extended road trip of the season is this weekend as the Monarchs head north for a pair of games against MCCAA North competition. The Monarchs visit Morey Courts in Mount Pleasant on Friday to take on undefeated and No. 16 Mid Michigan at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Monarchs head to Petoskey to take on North Central Michigan at 3 p.m.
SCORING LEADERS
While the tandem of
Marissa Thomas and
Tamia Tounsel lead the way with a combined 145 points, the Monarchs are a balanced team offensively with four players averaging seven or more points per game (PPG). Tounsel leads the Monarchs with 15.4 PPG and is followed closely in double digits by Thomas at 13.6 PPG.
Enddiea Reese and
Kamryn Richards are next at 9.0 PPG and 7.4 PPG, respectively.
A LOOK AT: MID MICHIGAN
The Mid Michigan Lakers, reigning Great Lake District A Champions, are rolling to begin the 2023-24 campaign at 8-0 overall (at the time of this release). The unblemished record has vaulted the Lakers into the national rankings at No. 16. Rachel Resio (15.3 PPG) and Chloe Watson (13.3 PPG) lead a deep Lakers team offensively.
SERIES HISTORY VS MID MICHIGAN
The Monarchs and Lakers have met six times dating back to the 2012-13 season. In those six games, the Monarchs hold a 4-2 edge in the series after winning the last two meetings with the Lakers, including an 83-76 victory in Warren on Dec. 10, 2021.
A LOOK AT: NORTH CENTRAL MICHIGAN
The North Central Michigan College Timberwolves enter the week with a 1-7 record after most recently dropping a 61-41 non-conference decision to Glen Oaks Community College. Through eight games, the Timberwolves are led by the guard tandem of Gloria House and Sadie McGuire who average 7.3 points per game each.
LAST SEASON'S MEETING VS. NORTH CENTRAL MICHIGAN
The Monarchs welcomed North Central Michigan College to Warren on Dec. 3 last year, the Timberwolves first season in program history. The Monarchs shot out to a 29-17 halftime lead and turned it up after the break to outscore the Timberwolves 33-8 over the game's final 20 minutes in the 62-25 victory.
Tamia Tounsel led the Monarchs with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
AROUND THE MCCAA EAST
With the season into its second month of action, the MCCAA East has remained a balanced conference as three teams check in with only one loss as of December 6: Jackson (7-1), SC4 (6-1) and Schoolcraft (4-1). Macomb is next at 3-2, while Wayne County (4-3), OCC (4-4), Henry Ford (3-6) and Mott (1-3) round out the standings.
