CENTREVILLE, Mich. – Reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week,
Tymias Williams, led six in double-digits scoring as No. 7 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised to a 103-74 road win over the Vikings of Glen Oaks Community College on Saturday (Dec. 9). The win lifted the Monarchs to 8-1 on the season and the 103 points marked the fourth time this season the Blue & White have hit triple digits this season.
The Monarchs have tallied 90 or more points in all eight wins and have now won six straight contests. Glen Oaks fell to 8-3 on the season after trailing by as many as 41 points Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs led 49-27 at the halftime break before cruising to the 103-74 final.
Up 9-0 early, the Monarchs earned the wire-to-wire win behind another unselfish effort that resulted in six players hitting double digits scoring. The unselfish play also led to a 52% effort from the field and 25 assists. All 10 active players scored, had a rebound and an assist in the balanced 26-point win.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) led the way with 21 points, five rebounds and three steals, while
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe as part of his 17-point afternoon. Maxey added three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in the win.
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U-Indy) and
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) were next with 13 points each. Hines dished out a team-high-tying four assists, grabbed four rebounds and had three steals. Nweke hauled in four rebounds.
Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) had 12 points and three assists and
Parker Day (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage/GVSU) followed with 10 points, five rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with four.
As a team, the Monarchs shot a season-best 82.6% (19-of-23) from the free throw line to help earn the wire-to-wire victory.
The Monarchs return to action next weekend with a road test at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Tip-off for the rematch of last year's NJCAA Great Lakes District C Championship Game is set for 3 p.m. at KVCC.
