Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) drained seven triples to help lead Macomb Women's Basketball to a 73-67 home win over Wayne County. Jackson's 3-point barrage, combined with 18 points from fellow sophomore,
Rayonna Armstrong (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy), elevated the Monarchs to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Wayne County fell to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in the conference after Wednesday's loss in Warren.
The Monarchs led 19-14 after one quarter of play and 38-26 at the half thanks to 50% shooting over the opening 20 minutes of action. Jackson ignited a 14-of-28 effort from the floor for the Monarchs with five first half 3-pointers (5-of-8 3PM) to help the Blue & White take a 12-point lead into the locker room. The Monarchs made the most of six offensive rebounds in the first half, scoring 11 second chance points compared to only four for the visitors.
Wayne County made a push in the second half and closed the gap to two in the fourth quarter before the Monarchs pulled away to secure the six-point home win.
Jackson and Armstrong combined for 41 points and knocked down 11 of the Monarchs' 13 3-pointers. Jackson also pulled down a season-high nine rebounds to complete a well-rounded night on the hardwood.
Tamia Tounsel (Shelby Twp., Mich./Dakota) and
Jasmine Ellis (Hazel Park, Mich./Michigan Math & Science) tied Jackson atop rebounding column with nine boards each, while
Kamryn Richards (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) grabbed eight rebounds. Ellis and Tounsel each tallied seven points, while
Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) posted seven points of her own to go along with seven rebounds. Ellis also dished out a team-best four assists and added five points in a balanced 19 minutes of action.
As a team, the Monarchs outrebounded Wayne County by a decisive 54-32 margin.
Wednesday marked the third time Jackson has made seven 3-pointers in her Macomb career. The seven triples ties for third all-time in a single game in program history.
The Monarchs led by as many as 16 points in Wednesday's win and never trailed after gaining a 3-2 lead 18 seconds into the game.
