After going 1-1 last week, Macomb Men's Basketball checks in with an overall record of 18-6 and a 6-3 mark in the MCCAA East. The record, combined with the Monarchs strength of schedule, has the Blue & White positioned at No.
8 nationally in this week's NJCAA Division II Rankings, released Monday (Feb. 13) by the association.
BY THE NUMBERS: 5
Defense continues to be a central theme for the Monarchs this season. Through 24 games, the Monarchs have held the opposition under 50 points eight times and under the 60-point threshold on 10 occasions. The Monarchs enter the week in the top
five (5) nationally in field goal percentage defense (36.9) and 3-point percentage defense (27.6).
A MASSIVE WEEK AHEAD
Playoff positioning is on the line when the eighth-ranked Monarchs welcome Mott (a team receiving votes in the latest Top-20 poll) and the 13th ranked SC4 Skippers to Warren this week. The Monarchs enter the week in sole possession of second place in the MCCAA East at 6-3 (18-6 overall), one game ahead of both Mott and SC4 (5-4).
STAT LEADERS
Tamario Adley and
Aidan Rubio pace a balanced Monarchs offense with 12.7 and 10.5 points per game, respectively, while the duo of
Juwan Maxey and
Tymias Williams follow with an average just north of nine points per contest.
Jaylen Daughtery averages a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game and is followed by Williams with 5.5 boards per contest, while
Linden Holder dishes out four of the Monarchs' 20 assists per outing.
MAXEY'S BIG GAME
Juwan Maxey was impressive throughout in Saturday's narrow setback, posting a team-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting overall and a 4-of-7 mark from 3-point territory. The 18-point game tied Maxey's career-high (set earlier this season in a win at Kellogg). Saturday marked the eighth time this season Maxey has made four or more 3-pointers in a game.
TOP SCORING DEFENSE
The Monarchs enter the week with the top scoring defense nationally in NJCAA D2 at 60.7 points per game allowed. The next closest team is Allen County at 62.2 PPG. The Monarchs defense has held the opposition under 60 points 10 times this season (10-0 in those games).
CHECKING IN ON: RV MOTT
The Mott Bears will bring their 5-4 conference record (17-7 overall) to Warren Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. After spending the majority of the season ranked, the Bears slipped to the receiving votes (RV) category in this week's poll. Mehki Ellison paces three Bears in double figures with an average of 17.1 points per game.
CHECKING IN ON: #13 SC4
The No. 13 Skippers of SC4 visit Warren Saturday for a 3 p.m. top-15 matchup. The Monarchs won the first meeting of the season, a narrow 82-81 victory after being up by as much as 21 points in the first half. The Skippers enter the week 19-5 overall and 5-4 in the MCCAA East, one game back of the Monarchs in conference play. As a team, the Skippers average 92.5 points per game and have four players averaging double figures.
HUNGER GAMES IS SATURDAY
Macomb Athletics will host its MCCAA Hunger Games doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 18) when the SC4 Skippers visit the Sports & Expo Center. Fans will get FREE admission to the games with a canned good and/or non-perishable food item donation. All items donated will be taken to a local food pantry. General admission is $5.00 without a donation.

Only three home games remain on the regular season slate (that number includes this week's pair of home games). The eighth-ranked Monarchs are home Wednesday, Saturday and again on Feb. 28. A possible first round playoff game looms at home on March 7.
