WARREN, Mich. – No. 8 Macomb Men's Basketball put together a complete performance to defeat No. 13 St. Clair County Community College (SC4) by a 97-78 final in Warren Saturday (Feb. 18). The Monarchs shot nearly 60% from the field (58.2%) and held the high-octane Skippers to 78 points (season average 92.9 PPG).
The win lifts the eighth-ranked Monarchs to 19-7 overall and 7-4 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Skippers fell to 20-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
The Monarchs raced out to a 48-39 lead at the half and continued their torrid shooting pace in the latter stanza to earn the 97-78 victory. The 97-point performance was the second most points scored by the Monarchs in conference play (107 vs. Schoolcraft, Jan. 14).
A decisive 50-30 points in the paint advantage and a 24-13 edge in second chance points helped the Monarchs shoot 61.3% in the second half alone and 58.2% for the game. As a sign of the Monarchs complete performance, the Skippers only led for 28 seconds in Saturday's matchup between two of the top 13 teams in NJCAA Division II.
Freshman forward
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) continued his ascension with a career-high 25 points on 12-of-21 shooting. The 25-point performance followed games of 15 and 18 points by Williams in his past two outings. Williams added eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in his best game in a Monarch uniform.
Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) tallied a career-high 18 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the year and his 12
th over the past two seasons in a Monarch uniform.
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) recorded his first double-double at the collegiate level with 18 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Rubio shot 7-of-11 overall and 4-of-6 from 3-point territory as part of an efficient, well-rounded game.
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) recorded a balanced 16 points, six rebounds and five assists and
Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) posted eight points, a team-best seven assists and five boards.
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Country Day) and
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) rounded out the scoring with six points each.
The Monarchs hit the road Wednesday (Feb. 22) to take on OCC. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Auburn Hills.
