LIVONIA, Mich. – Every Monarch scored and four reached double figures as No. 6 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised to an 82-43 road victory at Schoolcraft College Wednesday (Feb. 8). The win propels the Monarchs to 18-5 overall and 6-2 in the MCCAA East. The host Ocelots fell to 2-17 overall and 0-8 in the MCCAA East after the home setback.
The Monarchs jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in Wednesday's wire-to-wire win. The hot start resulted in a 44-17 halftime lead for the nation's sixth-ranked team. The impressive opening half was keyed by a balanced performance that included 56.3% shooting, a 26-4 advantage in points in the paint and an 18-0 edge in points off turnovers.
In the second half, the Monarchs cruised behind strong play on both ends of the floor to earn the 39-point victory. For the game, the Monarchs shot 33-of-65 (50.8%) on a night where every player entered the scoring column. The Monarchs also earned big advantages in points in the paint (40-14), points off turnovers (27-4) and bench points (43-16) by the time the final horn sounded in Livonia.
Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) led four in double figures with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (2-of-4 3PM).
Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) added 12 points, three assists and three steals, while
Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) tallied 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of assists.
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Country Day) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and tied Daughtery for the team lead in rebounds with seven.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) and
Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) recorded nine and eight points, respectively, while
Tom McNelis (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) pulled down six rebounds.
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) had a team-best four assists on a night where starters rested most, if not all, of the second half.
The sixth-ranked Monarchs visit No. 3 Henry Ford in a top-six battle Saturday (Feb. 11). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Dearborn.
