BY THE NUMBERS: 5
Macomb Baseball got the 2023 season underway last week with its annual spring trip playing eight games across Tennessee and Georgia. Through eight games, the Monarchs  recorded 10 extra-base hits with three doubles, two triples and five (5) home runs. The five home runs is only two shy of last year's total of seven through 46 games played.

BY THE NUMBERS: 26
The Monarchs got off to a strong start offensively this season by scoring 16 runs in a 16-14 Opening Day victory over Bryan College JV and later plating 10 in a narrow 11-10 setback. The 26 runs was the most scored in a doubleheader by the Monarchs since May 6, 2016 when Macomb swept Ancilla College by scores of 14-1 and 16-0.

AN OPENING DAY ERUPTION
We hit on the five home runs in our "By the Numbers" segment, but did you know four of the five big shots came on Opening Day? Ben Dillabough erupted for two home runs, the first two of his career, while Tom Burt and Joey Tedesco got into the act with a home run each. The four home runs were part of a 26-run explosion on 10 extra-base hits and 22 hits overall.

TO OHIO THEY GO!
The tough non-conference slate continues this week when the Monarchs travel to the Cleveland area to take on the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats for a three-game set beginning with a single nine-inning contest Thursday at 5 p.m. A doubleheader will follow on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. The Bobcats are 5-1 on the season with a team batting average of .319 and team ERA of 2.83.

BATTLED ON THE MOUND
While there were many key performances on the mound for the Monarchs last week, Chris Pieprzak earned the win in his first collegiate appearance after coming on for 1.1 innings of no-hit, scoreless ball. Three others check in with a 3.50 or lower ERA and at least one inning pitched (Ryan Becroft, Ryan Polega and Jake Verellen).

STAY CONNECTED
Just like the spring trip to open the season, there will not be a live stream for this week's games in Ohio. Follow the Monarchs on GameChanger for live stats and follow the team on twitter (@MacombBaseball) as the staff will post updates, when possible.

A FEW OFFENSIVE LEADERS
Newcomer Alex Mendes and veteran Josh Medrano led a balanced group at the plate with six hits each on the spring trip. Logan Rybarczyk and Joey Tedesco followed with five hits apiece, while Ben Dillabough checked in with four hits and a team-best eight RBIs. Mendes and Jack Lyndrup recorded five RBIs each and Rybarczyk drove in four runs to round out a few of the leaders.

CONFERENCE PLAY UP NEXT
And just like that, MCCAA Eastern Conference play will begin next week with a trio of single nine-inning games! The Monarchs will open conference play Tuesday (March 21) when they travel to Jackson to take on the Jets at 2 p.m. The home opener follows on Thursday with a 1 p.m. first pitch against Schoolcraft before the week ends in Flint against Mott on Saturday at 1 p.m.

CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT
This season will feature a new-look MCCAA East after the addition of new members forced realignment. With the additions, the MCCAA East now features the following schools: Macomb, Henry Ford, Jackson, Mott, Schoolcraft and SC4. The Monarchs will play each team five times (one single nine and two doubleheaders).
