BY THE NUMBERS: 25
The Monarchs will open the lid on league play in the week ahead with three 9-inning contests. This week marks the beginning of the new-look,
25-game MCCAA Eastern Conference slate with five games each (one 9-inning and four 7-inning contests) against the five MCCAA East schools: Henry Ford, Jackson, Mott, Schoolcraft and SC4.
THE WEEK AHEAD
MCCAA East play kicks off Tuesday (March 21) when the Monarchs visit the Jets of Jackson College for a single 9-inning contest at 2 p.m. The 2023 home opener follows on Thursday when the Monarchs host Schoolcraft for a 9-inning tilt with a 2 p.m. first pitch. The week ends with the Monarchs visiting the Vehicle City for a 1 p.m. first pitch against Mott (at Flint's Kearsley Park).
LAST WEEK'S PRODUCTION
Last week started off on a winning note thanks to stellar pitching and key offensive performances.
Tom Burt went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Adam Amodei,
Alex Mendes and
Logan Rybarczyk added an RBI each in Thursday's 6-4 win. Rybarczyk added a bases-clearing double Friday in a narrow loss. On the mound,
Gary Glaser III struck out five over four innings Friday afternoon.
MORE NCAA D2 COMMITMENTS!
Congratulations goes out to sophomore outfielder/catcher,
Tom Burt, and sophomore pitcher,
Gavin Nareski, on becoming the latest Monarchs to commit to the next level! Burt and Nareski will remain teammates at the next level as both recently committed Alderson Broaddus University, a NCAA D2 program in West Virginia!
COMMITMENT TRACKER
With the recent commitments by Burt and Nareski, the total number of Monarchs on the current roster who have committed to a four-year next year is up to five (three NCAA D2, two NAIA). Last year, the Monarchs sent one to a four-year school (
Harrison Ryan, CUAA).
A LOOK AT: JACKSON
Led by longtime head coach, Rick Smith, the Jackson College Jets return a good portion of their talent from last season's team that went 32-18 overall and 21-7 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. This season, the Jets have shot out to a 6-7 record on a .272 team batting average. The Monarchs have lost 13 straight to the Jets, last winning on March 24, 2018 by a 7-5 final score.
A LOOK AT: SCHOOLCRAFT
The Ocelots of Schoolcraft College check in with a 7-9 record after posting a league-best 98 runs through 16 games played. The Ocelots will look to build off of last season's record of 15-28 overall and 10-18 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Thursday's game against Schoolcraft is the 2023 home opener for the Monarchs. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. on Macomb's South Campus.
A LOOK AT: MOTT
Like the Monarchs first two opponents of the week, the Mott Community College Bears return a good portion of talent from a season ago. Last year, the Bears narrowly missed out on the playoffs, finishing one game back of a tournament spot. The Bears enter the week with a 3-6 record on the season and are currently riding a two-game winning streak.
