Rubio’s Career Night Leads No. 9 Macomb to 101-64 Victory at OCC

The Monarchs host Wayne County Tuesday (March 7) at 7 p.m. to open the postseason

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Aidan Rubio dropped in a career-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting (7 3PM) to lead No. 9 Macomb to a 101-64 victory over the host OCC Raiders Thursday (March 2) in Auburn Hills. The freshman wing from Flint also added seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a pair of steals to help lift the Monarchs to their 22nd win of the campaign and the East No. 2 seed in next week's Great Lakes District C Tournament.

The ninth-ranked Monarchs host the East No. 5 seed, Wayne County Community College, Tuesday (March 7) at 7 p.m. The winner of Tuesday's opening round contest moves on to Mott Community College for the semifinals Friday (March 10) at 11:30 a.m. The championship game is set for noon Sunday, also at Mott Community College.

As for Tuesday's game, the Monarchs got up big early and never looked back, leading 49-25 at the half before securing the 37-point win. The Monarchs led by as many 38 thanks to 50% shooting effort, a 38-24 edge in points in the paint and a 24-4 advantage in fast break points.

Rubio's 27 led the way on a career 7-of-11 effort from downtown, while Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) followed with 14 points each in the well-rounded team win. Williams ripped down eight rebounds and Maxey drained four triples to continue his strong play as of late.

Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) dished out a game-high eight assists and fellow De La Salle alum Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) distributed five assists of his own to go along with seven points in limited action. Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) led the Monarchs on the glass with nine boards in 18 minutes and Shawn Brown (Oak Park, Mich./Oak Park) hauled in eight in 12 minutes of work.
