WEST BLOOMFIELD TWP, Mich. – Down 7-0 early, an injury-ravaged Macomb Baseball team battled back, and had the game-tying or go-ahead run at the plate in three separate innings, before the host Mott Community College Bears staved off the comeback bid to secure the 11-7 win in nine innings. The loss sends the Monarchs to 2-12 on the season overall and 0-3 in the MCCAA East. The Bears improved to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in league play with the four-run victory.
Reese Rinna (Richmond, Mich./Richmond) led a balanced offensive attack for the Monarchs with a two-run home run and a double as part of a 2-for-5 day with a pair of runs scored. The home run was Rinna's first of the season. The redshirt freshman is hitting .417 and has posted a 1.000 slugging percentage in four games played (12 at-bats) this season.
Four other Monarchs also recorded multi-hit games as
Jack Blomme (Oxford, Mich./Oxford),
Ben Dillabough (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott),
Jack Lyndrup (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) and
Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) all had two hits each. Blomme, Dillabough and Lyndrup joined Rinna in the extra-base hit department with a double each.
Dillabough, Rinna and
Griffin Baalaer (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) combined to drive in six of the team's seven runs with two RBIs each.
Gary Glaser III (Chesterfield, Mich./Lutheran North) got the start Sunday and gave up three earned over five innings of work. The sophomore lefty's day was cut short due to a high pitch count after innings were extended by errors.
Brendan Bos (Howell, Mich./Howell) tossed two innings of no-hit ball and struck out two to keep the Monarchs within striking distance in the latter innings.
The Monarchs visit Cornerstone JV Tuesday (March 28) for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
