MELBOURNE, Fla. – Macomb Softball couldn't get the bats going in a pair of setbacks Monday (March 6), losing 9-4 in the opener to defending Region IV Champion, Bryant & Stratton-Wisconsin, before falling in the nightcap to Cornerstone, 9-0.
The Monarchs ended the day at 1-3 on the young season and will look to get back to .500 tomorrow when they take on Culver-Stockton JV at 2 p.m. and Kaskaskia at 4:30 p.m.
GAME ONE: Bryant & Stratton-Wisconsin 9, Macomb 4
The Monarchs were able to get plenty of runners on, but couldn't bring enough runs across to keep pace with the Bobcats in the 9-4 setback. In all, the Monarchs recorded 11 hits and were led by
Brynn Beyer (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) who went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a RBI.
Danielle Erickson (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) hit the Monarchs' first triple of the season as part of a 2-for-3 opener with a RBI and two runs scored, while
Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) went 2-for-3 with a RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
Elizabeth Townsend (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) rounded out the leaders at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) worked 1.2 innings of scoreless ball to end game one for the Monarchs.
GAME TWO: Cornerstone 9, Macomb 0
After 11 hits in Monday's opener, the Monarchs couldn't get the offense going in game two as Cornerstone earned a shutout win. The Golden Eagles led 5-0 through three innings and tacked on four runs in the seventh to account for the 9-0 final tally.
