HIGHLIGHTS
WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball snapped an unlucky 11-game skid with a 13-7 non-conference victory over a Rochester University split squad Tuesday (April 18) in Warren. The 13-7 decision gets the Monarchs back into the win column ahead of a four-game conference series against Mott Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's home doubleheader begins at 2 p.m., while Saturday's twin bill will be played at Ernie Meyers Field in Flint and will have a 1 p.m. first pitch.
On Tuesday, the Monarchs used a five-run second inning and a four-run fourth to earn the 13-7 triumph and were sparked by two doubles off the bat of sophomore third baseman
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge). Medrano's pair of doubles led to a team-high-tying two RBIs, matching the output by freshman catcher
Dallas Gordon (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) who hit a sac fly and had an RBI single.
Redshirt freshman
Reese Rinna (Richmond, Mich./Richmond) and fellow freshman
Andrew Sleiman (Leamington, Ont./Cardinal Carter) also recorded a double in the six-run victory.
The Monarchs were patient at the plate on their way to a season-high 17 walks, five drawn by sophomore middle infielder
Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott). The five walks, combined with an RBI single, lifted Pudlik's on-base percentage to a team-best .519 (min. 20 games played).
While Gordon and Medrano paced the RBI department with two each, six other Monarchs drove in a run in Tuesday's win:
Jack Blomme (Oxford, Mich./Oxford),
Tom Burt (Village of Clinton, Mich./Clinton),
Tyler Hall (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley),
Logan Ramsey (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott), Pudlik and Sleiman.
On the mound,
Gavin Nareski (Fenton, Mich./Holly) earned his second win of the campaign after working four innings of three-hit ball. The sophomore hurler allowed one unearned run while punching out four to record the win before giving way to
Jadon Hill (Armada, Mich./Armada) and
Brendan Bos (Howell, Mich./Howell) who combined for two innings of two-hit ball.
