BY THE NUMBERS: 13
Macomb Baseball snapped a lengthy skid Tuesday (April 18) with a
13-7 victory over the visiting split squad from Rochester University.
Josh Medrano led the Monarchs with two doubles and a team-high-tying two RBIs and was matched by
Dallas Gordon who drove in two runs, one coming on an RBI single and the other via sacrifice fly.
MONARCH REWIND
Let's catch up! The Monarchs hit the diamond for seven games since our last edition of game notes, and during that span, the Blue & White earned a win and suffered a pair of final inning heartbreaking defeats. Despite the ups and downs, the Monarchs—a team devastated by numerous key season-ending injuries—battled tough and are primed for a strong end to the season.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Monarchs will wrap up their season series with the Bears of Mott Community College with a four-game set this week. On Thursday, the Monarchs welcome the Bears to Warren for a twin bill beginning at 2 p.m. The series will conclude with a doubleheader in Flint Saturday at 1 p.m. All four games will feature live stream coverage (Thursday via Macomb and Saturday via Mott).
SEIZING THEIR OPPORTUNITY
The door cracked open for playing time and the former Chippewa Valley tandem of
Dallas Gordon and
Tyler Hall seized their opportunity with impressive play over the past week and a half. Gordon is slashing .500/.600/.643 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Hall has provided steady defense to go along with five RBIs and eight runs scored.
DOUBLE UP
The Monarchs have hit 42 doubles on the season and have done so with a balanced attack at the plate. Half of the doubles have come from a trio of Monarchs, led by eight from
Reese Rinna, seven off the bat of
Josh Medrano and six by
Jack Blomme.
A FEW TEAM LEADERS
While Gordon has been on the rise,
Reese Rinna leads the way with a .391 average (min. 20 games played). Rinna is slugging a team-best .688 behind three home runs and eight doubles. On the mound,
Ryan Polega has struck out a team-high 29 batters and is followed by
Jake Wohlfert (28) and
Joey Tedesco (27).
Brendan Bos is holding batters to a team-best .216 batting average against.
A LOOK AT: MOTT
The Mott Community College Bears enter the week with an 11-16 overall record and a 6-7 mark in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. As a team, the Bears are hitting .294 with a .412 on-base percentage and .461 slugging percentage thanks in large part to 27 home runs. The Bears pitching staff has posted a .282 batting average against and a 6.27 team ERA.
PUDLIK'S PLATE DISCIPLINE
Sophomore middle infielder and future Indiana Tech Warrior,
Jeremy Pudlik, has been disciplined at the plate this season. Pudlik has a team-best .519 on-base percentage (min. 20 games) behind team-leading marks in walks (22) and hit-by-pitch (8). The sophomore has 11 hits on the year and has seen his batting average rise sharply as of late.
