Speaking of
three (3) ... a trio of pitchers recorded 0.00 ERAs last week to help the team post a winning record.
Brendan Bos,
Gary Glaser III and
Gavin Nareski all posted clean ERAs with Nareski picking up the win against Rochester after four scoreless and Bos earning save No.
3 to help the Monarchs get their first conference win of the season.
WALK IT OFF, MONARCHS!
The Monarchs swept Mott with a pair of 5-4 home wins Thursday (April 20), the latter coming in walk-off fashion for the Blue & White's first doubleheader sweep since March 28. After Mott took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh of game two,
Logan Rybarczyk stepped to the plate with two outs and delivered with a walk-off triple that scored
Kaden Kovach and
Jeremy Pudlik for the win!
THE WEEK AHEAD
The Monarchs have three doubleheaders ahead this week, two coming at home beginning with a non-conference twin bill opposite the Titans of Terra State Community College Monday at 1 p.m. On Thursday, the Monarchs begin a four-game set against Henry Ford at home with a 2 p.m. first pitch. On Saturday, the Monarchs take on Henry Ford at The Corner Ballpark in Detroit at 1 p.m.
THE RYAN & RYAN EXPRESS
Two wins earned behind two big time performances! In game one against Mott,
Ryan VanSlambrouck got the nod and went six strong innings on his way to holding Mott to five hits while striking out four. In game two,
Ryan Polega went the distance to earn a complete-game victory after striking out six and only allowing three hits.
18 HOME RUNS
After key home runs hit by
Josh Medrano and
Logan Ramsey last week, the Monarchs have now lifted their long ball total to 18 on the season through 35 games played. The 18 home runs is one more than the last two seasons combined (7 - 2022; 10, 2021).
A LOOK AT: TERRA STATE
The Terra State Titans will enter Monday's doubleheader riding a three-game winning streak after sweeping conference foe, Lorain County Community College, last week. At 10-24 overall, the Titans have posted a team batting average of .256 to go along with a collective .361 on-base percentage and .347 slugging percentage. The Titans have a 6.31 team ERA.
A LOOK AT: HENRY FORD
The Hawks of Henry Ford College enter the week with a 16-14 overall record and a 10-7 mark in the MCCAA East. The 10-7 league record is one back of Schoolcraft (11-6) for the second and final region playoff spot awarded to the conference. The Hawks won their last two outings, both against first place Jackson. The Hawks' pitching staff has posted a 5.33 team ERA this season.
COMMITMENT TRACKER
The recruitment of current Monarchs has continued at an impressive clip under the direction of first-year head coach
Taylor Grzelakowski. Seven current Monarchs have already committed to a four-year school (4 NCAA D2, 3 NAIA) following
Ryan Polega's commitment to Rochester. Last year, the Monarchs sent one player to the next level.
