Baseball Earns Saturday Sweep at SC4, Wins Season Series

Tom Burt hit two home runs on the day while Joey Tedesco was dominant on the mound in game two.

PORT HURON, Mich. – Macomb Baseball ended the 2023 season on a high note with a Saturday (May 6) sweep over the host St. Clair County Community College Skippers. The Monarchs won game one, 12-10, and later won the nightcap by a 2-1 final score. The pair of wins gave the Monarchs the series win and lifted the program's record over the Skippers to 27-6 since the beginning of the 2013 campaign.

GAME ONE: Macomb 12, SC4 10
The Monarchs led by as many as nine before the Skippers made a late charge on their Sophomore Day to make things close at the end. Jake Wohlfert (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) got the start and went on to toss four innings of one run ball to earn his first win at the collegiate level. Wohlfert struck out three batters before giving way to a committee of Monarchs.

Offensively, Tom Burt (Village of Clinton, Mich./Clinton) and Ben Dillabough (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott) led the charge with a home run each and Jack Blomme (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) hit a pair of doubles. Burt posted a team-best four RBIs, while Blomme drove in two runs and Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) tied Blomme with a team-high two hits.

After the Skippers plated seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to make things interesting, Brendan Bos (Howell, Mich./Howell) was called upon to shut the door and the sophomore delivered to earn his fifth save of the campaign. The five saves lifts Bos into a tie for fourth all-time in single season saves at Macomb.

GAME TWO: Macomb 2, SC4 1
Joey Tedesco (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North/Hillsdale) ended his Macomb career in style with a complete-game, four-hitter to help lead the Monarchs to a 2-1 win in game two. The sophomore left-handed pitcher was in complete control throughout and went on to post a career-high 10 strikeouts while scattering four hits over seven innings of work. Tedesco's previous career best was nine strikeouts (vs. Vermillion County on March 8, 2022).

The impressive outing culminated a stellar two-way career for the lefty out of nearby Grosse Pointe North.

Tom Burt provided the offense as the sophomore catcher/outfielder hit a towering two-run home run in the fourth inning. The home run was Burt's second of the day and the sixth of the season for the Alderson Broaddus commit (NCAA D2).

Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) hit a double, his first of the season, and Adam Amodei (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Chippewa Valley) recorded a hit in his final appearance as a Monarch.
