WARREN, Mich. – MCCAA Eastern Conference action got underway Monday (Sept. 11) in Warren as Macomb Volleyball hosted the Skippers of St. Clair County Community College at the Sports & Expo Center. The Monarchs won the opening set and battled tough throughout, but ultimately fell to the Skippers—a 2022 MCCAA East Co-Champion—in four sets (25-23, 16-25, 16-25, 20-25).
The setback sends the Monarchs to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Skippers improved to 5-5 overall and moved to 1-0 in the MCCAA East.
As a team, the Monarchs racked up 34 kills, 31 assisted by
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day), and amassed 81 digs, nine aces and seven blocks.
Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) led the Monarchs with 13 kills and was followed by
Mallory Cardinale (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) with nine and
Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) with five.
Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) paced the Monarchs' night from the service line with four aces, while Cardinale, Elliott, Hudgins, Tresnak and
Nikole Nikolova (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) checked in with one each.
Nikolova and Tresnak both posted career-highs with 28 digs and 17 digs, respectively, to lead a spirited defensive effort. Hudgins and Tresnak rounded out the stat leaders after accounting for six of the team's 10 block assists on the evening.
The Monarchs return to action Wednesday (Sept. 13) when they visit Flint for a 7 p.m. battle with the Bears of Mott Community College. The match will be played at Mott's Ballenger Fieldhouse (1401 E. Court St., Flint). Mott will live stream the match on their YouTube Channel:
