The Monarchs opened MCCAA Eastern Conference action on the road Saturday (Jan. 13) at Schoolcraft and shook off a slow start to win, 87-72. The league-opening win marked the
12th time this season the Monarchs have scored 80 or more points. The Monarchs are a perfect
12-0 on the season in those games (0-2 when scoring less than 80 points).

Playing without their leading scorer and down 25 points per game overall, the shorthanded Monarchs needed their depth to step up and
Nate Brown was one of several to rise to the occasion in an 87-72 road win at Schoolcraft. The sophomore transfer recorded a team-high
18 points and did so behind 60% shooting from the field (40% 3PM).
BIG WEEK AHEAD
Exciting week ahead for No. 5 Macomb Men's Basketball! The fifth-ranked Monarchs continue conference play with a pair of big time games against ranked opponents this week. On Wednesday, the Monarchs travel to Dearborn to take on No. 14 Henry Ford at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Monarchs finally return to their home hardwood for a 3 p.m. tilt against No. 17 Mott.
SPREADING IT AROUND
Juwan Maxey leads five in double figures at 15.8 points per game (PPG).
Tymias Williams is next at 13.4 PPG, while
Parker Day and
Josh Hines follow at 13.1 PPG and 12.2 PPG, respectively, and
Nate Brown checks in at 11.0 PPG. The balance continues with the following averages:

NATIONAL LEADERBOARD
At the time of this release, the Monarchs rank seventh nationally in scoring at 95.4 PPG, fourth in assists at 22.1 per game and check in third in field goal percentage at 52.5%. On the defensive end, the Monarchs are first nationally in field goal percentage defense at 34.9%. The Monarchs' 48.9 rebounds per game ranks fourth nationally.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR DAY
Sophomore forward and GVSU transfer,
Parker Day, started conference play in a big way on Saturday with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in a winning effort. Day averages 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season.
A LOOK AT: HENRY FORD
The No. 14 Henry Ford Hawks enter the week with a 9-4 record overall and a 1-0 mark in league play. Led by head coach Chris Shepard in his seventh season, the Hawks once again boast a deep, talented roster that features a pair of Mr. Basketball award winners. Chansey Willis Jr. leads the Hawks at 20.7 PPG and 7.5 APG, followed by Damarion Bonds at 15.3 PPG and 6.5 RPG.
A LOOK AT: MOTT
The Bears of Mott Community College, led by head coach Steve Schmidt in his 33rd season at the helm, enter the week ranked No. 17 in the latest poll at 13-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Bears dropped their conference opener at home to SC4, 86-75. Sophomore guard Mehki Ellison leads a Bears team that averages 89.8 points per game with 27.1 PPG of his own, while Tylan Osborn snags 10.0 rebounds per contest.
BOARD BATTLE REIGNS SUPREME
Through 14 games this season, the Monarchs are a perfect 12-0 when out-rebounding their opponent and are 0-2 when out-rebounded by the opposition.
Parker Day leads four Monarchs averaging six or more rebounds per game at 7.4 per contest, followed by
Tate MacKenzie (7.3),
Tymias Williams (7.2) and
Juwan Maxey (6.2).
