WARREN – Oh, what a night! Macomb Volleyball swept Oakland Community College on Sophomore Night Monday (Oct. 28) and secured a spot in one of the two upcoming Great Lakes District Tournaments in the process. The 3-0 victory, coming via set scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-23, was the 11
th of the season for the Monarchs.
Which tournament (Great Lakes District A or B) and seed will be determined following Wednesday's regular season finale at St. Clair County Community College.
The Great Lakes District Tournaments will be held at St. Clair County Community College November 7-9.
On Monday, the Monarchs honored the careers of five sophomores:
Grace Amoe,
Paige Elliott,
Katarina Gavric,
Milley McCutcheon and
Hadley Schaefer with a special pre-match ceremony and the Blue & White helped send the sophomores out in style with a win on their home floor for the final time.
Schaefer made the most of her Sophomore Night with a team-best 11 kills (only one error) on 20 swings for a .500 hitting percentage.
Kara Beeker (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) and
Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) followed with seven kills each, while Elliott inched closer to 1,500 career assists with 19 in the three-set affair.
Sophia Kulaga (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) led the Monarchs with 15 digs, one shy of her career-high, and
Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) checked in with 12 to round out Monday's stat leaders.
