RANDOLPH, NJ – Another ranked win! No. 3 Macomb Men's Basketball put forth a gritty effort on both ends of the floor to defeat the previously unbeaten No. 25 Montgomery College (MD) Raptors by a 77-72 final on Saturday (Nov. 23) in Randolph, NJ. The win elevated the Monarchs to 6-0 on the season ahead of tomorrow's Turkey Hoop Shoot Championship against the host County College of Morris Titans.
Like the Monarchs, the Titans were a national tournament team a season ago and came into the 2024-25 campaign ranked nationally.
Fending off a tough shooting day, the third-ranked Monarchs battled their way to a narrow 34-33 edge at the break and led by double digits in the latter half before the Raptors made a run to make things close late. The Monarchs responded by coming up with key stops and converting on clutch free throws in the waning minutes to earn their second Top 25 win of the season.
Three Monarchs tied for the team-high in scoring as the trio of
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy),
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) and
Marlon Williams (Benton Harbor, Mich./Benton Harbor) all checked in with 16 points. Fishburn corralled a team-best 11 rebounds to pace three Monarchs with double-doubles on the day. [Marlon] Williams grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with his 16-point afternoon, while
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) posted a stat line of 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Caron Williams (Mount Clemens, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had nine points, five rebounds and two assists,
Malachi Irving (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) went for eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks and
Jalen Jenkins (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) battled foul trouble to account for five rebounds and three assists.
Tip-off for the Turkey Hoop Shoot Championship is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in New Jersey.
