CENTREVILLE – Redshirt sophomore guard
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) led five Monarchs in double figures scoring with a career-high 32 points to help propel No. 4 Macomb Men's Basketball to a 96-86 opening night victory at Glen Oaks Community College.
Up 50-34 at the half and leading by double digits for most of the opening 20 minutes of play, the Monarchs had to stave off a determined Glen Oaks effort in the latter stanza as the nation's fourth-ranked team prevailed in a hard-fought 96-86 battle.
Hines' career-best 32 points came on a 10-of-16 shooting effort overall and a 5-of-9 display from 3-point territory. The redshirt sophomore guard added five rebounds to help lift the Monarchs to victory.
Marlon Williams (Benton Harbor, Mich./Benton Harbor) followed with a career-high of his own with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting while adding six assists, five rebounds and a pair of blocks to his opening night tally.
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy) was next with a career-high-tying 13 points to go along with nine rebounds, six assists, a steal and a block, while
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) posted 12 points and seven rebounds and
Malachi Irving (Warren, Mich./Warren Fitzgerald) added 11 points and three boards in the winning effort.
Jalen Jenkins (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal to close out Wednesday's leaders.
A massive test lies ahead this weekend as the fourth-ranked Monarchs travel to Iowa Falls, Iowa, to take part in No. 7 Ellsworth Community College's Dale Howard Classic. The Monarchs take on the seventh-ranked Panthers first on Friday at 8 p.m. ET and will follow that contest up with a 12 p.m. ET Saturday tip-off against Iowa Western Community College.
