WARREN – Ending the year on a high note! Macomb Women's Basketball cruised to a 70-40 home victory over the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College on Saturday (Dec. 21) behind a well-rounded team effort. The win elevated the Monarchs to 5-6 on the season as
Asiyah Jihad (Farmington, Mich./North Farmington) and
Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) posted double-doubles to lead the way.
The 30-point triumph capped off the 2024 portion of the campaign and sent the Monarchs off to their holiday break in winning fashion. The Monarchs return to game action Jan. 3 & 4 at St. Clair County Community College's Holiday Classic in Port Huron, Mich.
Crashing the glass was key for the Monarchs throughout Saturday's non-conference tilt and the Blue & White delivered with a 58-to-35 advantage on the boards overall, including a 27-8 edge in offensive rebounds. The impressive advantage on the offensive glass led to a 26-7 second chance points differential in favor of the Monarchs.
Jihad paced the Monarchs with 18 points and added 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. The freshman forward added three blocks and a pair of steals to her final stat line of the 2024 calendar year. Garon also posted a double-double, doing so with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The sharp-shooting sophomore drained three triples and added three steals to record her latest balanced game of the campaign.
A'Liyah Forris (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) dropped in 14 points to go along with a team-best five assists, while
Zion Harris (Clinton Twp., Mich./Lakeview) chipped in with nine points on a trio of 3-pointers to round out the leading scorers.
Ava Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) hauled in nine rebounds to finish just behind Garon and Jihad on the glass.
Nave'yah Knott (Detroit, Mich./University High) checked in with five points and six rebounds and
Janiya McWilliams (Detroit, Mich./Warren Fitzgerald) had five points and four rebounds in the 30-point win.
The Monarchs take on South Suburban College at 2 p.m. on January 3 to tip-off their time in Port Huron at the St. Clair County Community College Holiday Classic.
