FLINT, Mich. – No. 6 Macomb Men's Basketball never trailed on their way to earning a season sweep over the host Bears of Mott Community College with a 94-79 win on Wednesday (Feb. 14). The road victory lifted the Monarchs to 20-3 overall and 9-1 in the MCCAA East. Wednesday's win was the first over Mott in Flint for the Monarchs in four years.
The Bears fell to 18-6 overall and 5-5 in MCCAA East play with the home setback.
Efficiency was the theme throughout the night as the Monarchs shot 53.1% in the opening half and 58.8% over the final 20 minutes while dishing out 23 assists on 37 made field goals. Sophomores
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) and
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) led the efficient effort with near-perfect nights from the floor.
Williams shot 10-of-11 from the field on his way to a team-high 23 points while Maxey connected on 7-of-8 from the floor and made all four of his 3-point attempts to net 21 points. Williams added six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a pair of steals and Maxey recorded four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) continued to round back into form after a break from play with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting to close out three in double figures for the Monarchs.
Parker Day (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage/GVSU) returned to action with nine points, seven rebounds and three assists and
Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) continued his strong play with a highlight-worthy eight points that included a pair of and-one conversions.
Nate Brown (Flint, Mich./Davison) dished out a game-high five assists in his return home while
Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) recorded six points and three assists in the road win.
The Monarchs outrebounded the Bears, 35-22, to move to 20-0 when outrebounding the competition. The team's depth came through once again as the Monarchs' bench outscored the Bears' reserves by a 32-12 margin.
The sixth-ranked Monarchs visit No. 13 SC4 on Saturday at 3 p.m. The winner of Saturday's tilt will control their destiny in search of the No. 1 seed in the MCCAA East.
