Tounsel Crashes Glass Again, Leads Women’s Basketball to 65-55 Road Win at Mott

Sophomore forward Tamia Tounsel ripped down a career-best 18 rebounds and added 23 points in the 10-point road win.

FLINT, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball took the lead early and never looked back in a 65-55 road win over the host Bears of Mott Community College on Wednesday (Feb. 14). The road victory secured the season sweep over the Bears and lifted the Monarchs to 14-8 overall and 4-4 in the MCCAA East. The Bears dropped to 5-13 overall and 2-7 in league play with the home setback to the Monarchs.

Tamia Tounsel (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) was on a mission all night in the Valentine's Day showdown and went on to record a new career-high 18 rebounds (6 offensive, 12 defensive) while adding 23 points and four steals. The double-double was Tounsel's 13th of the season, and her 18 rebounds accounted for nearly half of the Monarchs' team total on the night (37).

Enddiea Reese (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) followed her former Dakota High School teammate in the scoring column with 13 points and Marissa Thomas (Toledo, Ohio/Perrysburg) had 12 points to round out three in double figures for the Monarchs. Reese added five rebounds while Thomas hauled in five boards to go along with three assists and a pair of steals.

Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) tallied all eight of her points in the opening half to help give the Monarchs a 40-28 lead at the break and MaKayla Downs (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) added five points, swiped a game-high six steals and dished out a team-best four assists in the winning effort.

The Monarchs were active defensively from the opening tip and went on to earn a commanding 29-12 advantage in points off turnovers. Six of Tounsel's career-best 18 rebounds were on the offensive end and helped lead to a 10-4 edge in second chance points.

Up Next: The Monarchs travel to nearby Port Huron for a 1 p.m. Saturday tip-off at SC4.
