Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Thomas, Tounsel Lift Women’s Basketball to Fourth Straight Victory, Ritchie Earns Win No. 300

Congrats goes out to head coach Jay Ritchie for earning career win No. 300 at Macomb in this evening’s 66-55 road victory at OCC!

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Marissa Thomas poured in a game-high 23 points and Tamia Tounsel recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds to help Macomb Women's Basketball earn a 66-55 road victory at Oakland Community College. The win—the Monarchs fourth in a row—lifts the Blue & White to 16-8 overall and 6-4 in the MCCAA East.

Wednesday's victory also marked the 300th career win for head coach Jay Ritchie. With the historic victory, Ritchie has now compiled a staggering 300-112 record at Macomb and is responsible for 60% of the wins in program history.

The Monarchs led 14-9 after one quarter of play and later took a 34-29 edge into the halftime break behind a 54% shooting effort in the second quarter. The teams traded buckets to the tune of an even third quarter (12-12) before the host Raiders made a push to tie the game at 47-47 with 8:11 remaining in the contest.

The Monarchs took over from there as the Blue & White closed the game on a 19-8 run to earn the 11-point win and sweep the season series with the Raiders.

Thomas (Toledo, Ohio/Perrysburg) posted another well-rounded stat line of 23 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Tounsel (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) was a force to be reckoned with once again on the way to her eighth double-double in 10 conference games (15th overall this season). Tounsel added a team-high three steals and a pair of assists to her 19-point, 15-rebound effort.

Enddiea Reese (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) added seven points and four rebounds, MaKayla Downs (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) had five points, four rebounds and two assists and four other Monarchs chipped in with three points each.

The Monarchs return home for Sophomore Day on Saturday (Feb. 24) against Wayne County. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and the Sophomore Day ceremony will precede the contest around approximately 12:50 p.m.
