The first half of the MCCAA East slate came to a close in style on Saturday as No. 6 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised to a
117-68 victory over Jackson. The
117 points scored on Saturday tied for the fourth most in a single game in program history and equaled the highest scoring output against a MCCAA East opponent in program history.
BY THE NUMBERS: 8
A huge reason for Macomb's 49-point victory over Jackson was the red-hot shooting by
Juwan Maxey. The sophomore guard was dialed in from the opening tip-off on his way to pouring in a career-high 28 points on
eight (8) 3-pointers. The
eight (8) triples tied for the third most made in a game in program history!
KEEP WORKING
We may sound like a broken record, but the Monarchs continued to their season-long winning formula last week in an 86-64 win over Wayne County and a 117-68 victory over Jackson. The Monarchs outrebounded Wayne County and Jackson to boost their record to an unblemished 17-0 when outrebounding the competition. The Monarchs are 0-3 when outrebounded by the opposition.
CONTINUED BALANCED
Juwan Maxey leads five in double figures at 16.3 points per game (PPG), followed by
Tymias Williams who nets 14.1 PPG.
Parker Day and
Nate Brown are next at 13.2 and 12.7 PPG, respectively, while
Josh Hines checks in at 11.9 PPG. The balance continues with the following averages:
Tate MacKenzie (8.7),
Jotham Nweke (8.5),
Kyle Millender (8.2),
Justin James (8.0),
Marlon Williams (6.4) and
DaMaryon Fishburn (4.5).
AT THE HALFWAY POINT
At the midway point of conference play, the Monarchs sit in a first place tie with No. 15 SC4 at 6-1. A crucial week lies ahead as both opponents are close behind with Henry Ford one game back at 5-2 and Schoolcraft two back at 4-3. Mott is in a third place tie with Schoolcraft at 4-3, while OCC (2-5), Jackson (1-6) and Wayne County (0-7) round it out.
SOPHOMORE DAY
Men's Basketball will host Sophomore Day on February 24 at 3 p.m. when the Monarchs host Wayne County CC. Come early as we honor the careers of the team's sophomores with a special pregame ceremony!
A LOOK AT: SCHOOLCRAFT
The Schoolcraft College Ocelots enter the week with a 12-9 overall record and are in a tie for third place in the MCCAA East at 4-3 in league play. In this season's previous meeting, the Monarchs shook off a slow start to defeat the Ocelots, 87-72, on Jan. 13 in Livonia behind a 55.0% shooting effort. Daniel Lee (16.9 PPG) and Mackhi Jackson (15.8 PPG) lead the way for the Ocelots offensively.
A LOOK AT: HENRY FORD
The Henry Ford Hawks (13-6 overall) enter the week with a 5-2 mark in the MCCAA East. A team receiving votes in the latest poll, the Hawks boast a roster that features a pair of Michigan Mr. Basketball award winners and other NCAA D1 commits. Chansey Willis Jr. (19.4 PPG), Damarion Bonds (15.6) and Carlos Johnson (10.1) lead a Hawks offense that averages 92.1 PPG. The Monarchs won the first meeting of the season, a 93-81 victory on Jan. 17.
ADDITIONAL STAT LEADERS
Tymias Williams leads three Monarchs averaging seven or rebounds per game (RPG) at 7.4 per contest, followed by
Parker Day and
Tate MacKenzie at 7.1 RPG each.
Justin James has dished out a team-best 73 assists (3.6 APG), followed by
Juwan Maxey with 63 and
Kyle Millender with 62. Maxey has drained a team-best 63 3-pointers this season.
