WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball opened their MCCAA Eastern Conference slate on a winning note with a 7-3 victory over the visiting Jets of Jackson College on Tuesday (March 19) in Warren. Freshman right-handed pitcher
Ryan Sieler (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) was dialed in from the first pitch and went on to hold a high powered Jets offense to two hits across five innings of work to pick up his first collegiate victory.
The standout freshman struck out six Jets on his way to win No. 1 at Macomb while the duo of
Dylan Pawenski (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica/Madonna) and
Ty Stepek (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Northern/GVSU) combined for six hits and three RBIs in the win. Tuesday's victory was the first for Macomb over the Jets since 2018, snapping a streak of 18 straight losses.
With Sieler in full control, the Monarchs shot out to a 7-0 lead and held the Jets scoreless over the first seven innings before the visitors struck for all three of their runs in the eighth frame. Up 2-0 in the second, Stepek broke the game open with a two-run single to left to double the lead to 4-0. Stepek's two RBI single would stand as the game-winning drive, while a fifth-inning RBI double by
Brady Krzciok (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston/Madonna) made it 5-0 and a Pawenski RBI single in the seventh pushed it to 7-0.
The Monarchs head to The Corner Ballpark in Detroit for a single 9-inning conference contest against the Schoolcraft College Ocelots on Thursday (March 21) at 2 p.m.
